On Page Optimization
- There are a vast number of elements that all contribute to overall Search Engine rankings. On Page Optimization includes a number of ways this can be improved.
- The <TITLE> tag - possibly the most important aspect of on page optimization. Most Search Engines attach a lot of importance to this tag, and the keywords used here should be chosen with extreme care. The <TITLE> tag is also often displayed in search results, so it should be readable and attractive to human readers too.
- META Keyword - not read by all search engines. Its purpose is to define what keywords apply to your page, so it is still a good idea to include it.
- The META Description tag - displayed in some search engine results. Therefore, it pays to craft a good description that ranks well and is easily readable.
- Headings - generally larger print, and used to emphasize or introduce new topics. Headings can be various sizes represented by tags like <H1>, <H2>, <H3>, etc. Some search engines give extra relevance to keywords that appear within a heading tag.
- Link Text - sometimes weighed more heavily than words found in the regular body text.
- Hyperlink URL Keywords – keywords within the name of the page. These can sometimes be given extra relevance by certain search engines.
- BODY - the area containing the bulk of the text on a page. Good copywriting and interesting content, without overuse of keywords and key phrases.
- ALT text - is used to describe an image for those users who surf with the graphics turned off. It is also useful for the sight impaired who use software that reads the contents of web pages to them.
